Mom's the Word

Still, haven’t found something for Mom? Hey— we are last minute because you are. But before you go searching for picked over flowers at Fred Meyer in the eleventh hour, or worse, looting your neighbor’s garden (although, we wouldn’t tell); consider getting Mom something she’d appreciate more than anything, and definitely more than nothing.

Perhaps somewhere along the lines of mimosas and sunshine and a little more renaissance than old school tulip stems and ye olde breakfast in bed tactic. Since we’re all just trying to make our Moms proud, here’s a handful of local experiences that will make Mom happier than a strong matriarch at brunch with a champagne flute— Oh wait.

Mother’s Day Brunch at the Oregon Zoo

Although every day might feel like a trip to the zoo for Mom, make this Mother’s Day a family-friendly, animal-friendly, Mom-friendly event. Brunch includes french toast cobbler, eggs benedict, fresh fruit and kid’s menu. Afterward, enjoy inclusive zoo admission to visit the animal kingdom's notable mothers, and rest well knowing all proceeds will go towards the Oregon Zoo’s conservation, education, and welfare. Plan to rest really well knowing you are guaranteed an afternoon nap and Mom’s welfare.

Moms & Mimosas at Hip Chicks Do Wine

Stop by Portland’s Oldest Winery (we were surprised, too) and celebrate Mom in the best way we can think of – $5 mimosas all weekend. Made with locally grown grapes throughout Oregon and Washington, this hip spot promises small plates, $12 flights, and bouquets to the first 15 Moms who float through their doors on Sunday. You deserve it, Mom!

Mother’s Day Rhododendron Show & Sale at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

First, trying saying rhododendron ten times fast. Next, head to the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden with Mom. Annually hosted by the Portland Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, this popular event includes Mom’s favorite peak blooms, a plant sale with vendors, and America’s Next Top Rhododendron at noon. Enter your own blue ribbon-contender to make Mom proud.

Run Mama Run

Maybe Mom’s sporty? You know what they say, if Mom’s happy everyone’s happy; and if Mom wants to sweat, everyone will probably be sweating too. Check out this locally established race by mothers looking to support other mothers. Benefitting local 501(c)3 non-profit, Mother & Child, this 5K/10K around Mt.Tabor Park includes a Kids’ Fun Run, post-race yoga and massage, and goodies like Build Your Own PB&J with Grand Central Bakery, beer by Deschutes Brewing, and more!

Mother’s Day Wine Tour at Purposeful Nomad

Head out to Oregon’s wine country for the day with Purposeful Nomad travel tours. As advertised, this tour “is for mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, aunties- anyone wanting to celebrate an amazing mother in their life!” Also known as, Mamas Day Out. This full day tour of the Willamette Valley will be led by Purposeful Nomad co-owner, Caitlin Murray and wine industry connoisseur, Cristina Gonzales of Gonzales Wine. Arranged wine tastings at (count ‘em) three wineries, transportation to and from, a picnic lunch and a complimentary bottle of wine— Sold! to the woman we love!

Mother’s Day Farm Brunch at The Side Yard Farm

We could have made another joke about every day being Animal Farm for Mom— but we didn’t. Consider it our gift to you, and then consider this rustic, craft brunch admission as your gift to mom. Treat your favorite matriarch to an intimate, seed-to-table, multi-course meal that includes wood-fired biscuits, Extracto coffee, Dogwood Distilling bloody marys, and mimosas. Hosted by the Side Yard Farm & Kitchen, an urban farming supper club known for their monthly gatherings and by the looks of it— something sinful on a plate.
